It gives us great pleasure to announce that, later this month, we will be launching a Caught by the River bookshop within the world famous Rough Trade East record shop. The stock list is being put together as I write so expect to find a selection of Caught by the River classics, hard to find and out of print titles plus our favourite new releases. We’ll also be putting the spotlight on a title that we think is particularly worthy of attention and awarding it ‘book of the month’status.
Pete Donne, co-owner of the Rough Trade shops says, “What at first might seem a slightly incongruous hook-up, Caught by the River’s passion for and eclectic stance on nature (and more) is in fact so in-tune with Rough Trade’s long established support of the indie / DIY ethic, that it actually seems odd that a partnership like this has taken so long to come to fruition. We hope our customers will delight in the unexpected discoveries that they will surely make, as much as we have done over the last few years following Caught by the River”.
Part of the deal with RT has us curating in-store events each month and we thought it would make sense to kick things off with a Q&A introducing folk to the history and background of Caught by the River. John Andrews (who, along with letter writing partner, Dexter Petley, is the longest running contributor to the site) will host, chatting with Robin, Andrew and myself, before reading his chapter from our latest anthology, On Nature. I’m also chuffed to say that another contributor to On Nature , Bill Drummond, will be along along to read from his chapter, ‘On The Road To Damascus’.
So, we hope to see you at Rough Trade East, ‘Dray Walk’, Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL, on Wednesday 21st September from 6.30pm. Tickets aren’t required – just turn up on the night.
An after party will be held in the nearby craft beer and real ale bar Mason and Taylor with guest DJs and the best beers anywhere in town.
