Caught by the River is proud to announce an afternoon of Words On Water as part of this years’ Thames Festival. The Feast on the Bridge takes place on Southwark Bridge on Saturday, 10th September. Enlisting a group of writers and music lovers, we’ll be putting together a piscine afternoon at the Caught by the River Bandstand, located on one of London’s most iconic spots.

“Feast on the Bridge is a free, communal dining event that brings people together to share a harvest meal, to eat, drink, talk and dance on the spectacular setting of Southwark Bridge as part of the Thames Festival. This year it will take place on Saturday 10th September and our theme is fish! We will be celebrating sustainable fish with debates, stalls, sea shanties, cycle powered cinema screenings, games, a four metre ‘fish’ cake, mullet hair cuts and a ‘one that got a way’ photo booth. We will be serving up American Signal Crayfish from the River Thames and Fish & Chips using unloved varieties of fish and un-cherished chips. In the evening diners will be invited to the Feast on the Bridge restaurant for a special meal highlighting the issue of discard fish, as the sun sets there will be a mass toast to the Thames and all that swim in her. Parked next to the Caught by the River Bandstand for the day will be the Andrews of Arcadia ‘Thames and London Angling History One Day Van’ – an immobile van housing an exhibition-cum-museum featuring glazed cabinets of angling curiosity, Thames Angling ephemera and other riverine exhibits. John (Andrews) will give impromptu talks on the history of London angling on the Thames throughout the day in a conversational tone and fuelled by tea. During the afternoon, there will be special guest appearances from other London angling characters. John will also be reading on the Caught by the River Bandstand during the afternoon.

Also on the bandstand will be fellow angling writers, Luke Jennings and Jon Berry. Luke Jennings is the author of Blood Knots: Of Fathers, Friendship & Fishing, recently short-listed for the 2010 Samuel Johnson and William Hill prizes, and now available in paperback. Jon Berry is the author of the recently published, Beneath the Black Water, a book describing the ups and downs of a lifelong obsession with Ferox Trout.

Guest DJ Richard Norris (The Time and Space Machine) will be serving up a selection of fishy platters before, between and after the readings alongside Caught By The River DJs.
