Caught by the River

Caught by the River at The Guardian Open Weekend

21st March 2012

Anyone heading over to the Guardian Open Weekend festival in London this weekend might want to make a note of the Caught by the River events taking place on York Way on the Saturday afternoon and the Sunday morning.

On Saturday, at 5.30pm in the Hub Library, we are putting on a family friendly ‘wildlife sound quiz’. Prepared and presented by Cheryl Tipp, the curator of the wildlife sound archive at the British Library, ‘Name That Tune’ will ask you to do exactly that. Cheryl will be joined by our old mate Ceri Levy, once a diarist of this parish and now consumed by the on going success of the Ghost of Gone Birds project (of which he is the co-founder). Ceri takes some time out from writing the Ghosts book to join Cheryl for a chat about birdsong and help present the quiz questions.

All morning on Sunday, again at The Hub, Matt ‘Bird of the Week’ Sewell will be hosting a painting and drawing club that’s open to all ages.

Also on Sunday between 10 – 11am the legends that are John Andrews and Luke Jennings will be found talking ‘Urban Fishing’ in Guardian room 1.1 at the newspaper’s Kings Place HQ. Tickets for this talk can be bought individually (the weekend tickets have now sold out) and you can find out how to get them here. If you’re heading down, make sure you come and say hello.
