An Observation and a Guide to the many and varied types and characters of the Jack Russell Terrier.
A mystery was solved for us this weekend when a Twitter bulletin from Andrews of Arcadia trumpeted the reappearance of the angler-artist and Zanderland resident, John Richardson, an early recruit to this firm whose prolonged silence was giving us cause for concern.
We are very pleased to say that we needn’t have worried, he’s been busy is all, and in his own words, this is what he’s been up to:
Finally The Observation and Guide to The Jack Russell Terrier, Volume 1 is finished. On Wednesday we drove to see Martin Clark and Anneleise Appleby at the Tilley Printing Company to collect them through conditions that varied from thick fog to monsoon downpours. Believe me there’s nothing like the M6, M42 and M5 in those conditions, never mind the A14.
The finished book is printed letterpress on Zerkal Smooth White, mould-made, acid-free paper, the text pages are on 145gsm Zerkal, the dust jacket 225gsm Zerkal. The book measures 7 inches x 6 inches.
The edition is limited to three hundred fifty copies and each one is numbered and signed.
The volume contains fourteen linocuts in two colours and one single colour linocut all of which are printed from my original blocks. The text accompanying the illustrations was written by myself.
There is a splendid introduction by John Andrews, ‘Andrews of Arcadia’ himself. John has known all our Jack Russell terriers and he was actually instrumental in us acquiring the lovely and feisty Minnow.
The book costs £30.00 plus post and packaging of £1.95 within the UK. Overseas costs are available on request.
Copies of the book can be ordered from the Two Terriers by email or telephone on 01945 773850.
Editors note: we look forward to hearing more from John in Zanderland very soon. Until then, previous correspondences can be found here.
