Caught by the River

Weird Walk – editions and zines

24th July 2024

Two great new zines have landed in the Caught by the River pigeonhole, courtesy of Weird Walk — enthusiasts of all things ancient.

Folklore Activist: The Art of Ben Edge is a 40-page visual primer showcasing Ben’s paintings, which capture a unique vision of British calendar customs and folklore. Although there has been a resurgence of interest in these matters of late, when he began painting folk traditions in the last decade, Ben was an anomaly by virtue of placing such subjects at the centre of his practice.

Folklore Activist also includes an in-depth interview between Ben and Weird Walk, plus the print debut of his essential Folklore Activist Manifesto.

The first issue of Weird Walk’s new music zine, Peasant, pulls music from the soil. It is a self-confessed zine by revolting peasants, for revolting peasants.

You may have noticed there is something stirring out there in the hedgerows, a whisper in the copse, a ripple on the pond. A diverse breed of musical innovators are drawing on the past, on folklore, history and myth, to weave new patterns on their sonic looms…Some operate within the rich worlds of folk music and dance; others draw threads from electronica, metal and the avant-garde. And although distinct in their sounds and methods, there is also a markedly inclusive spirit.

Features Enya, Daisy Rickman, Peter Talisman, Broadside Hacks, Boss Morris, Abysmal Specter and more!
