A wet Wednesday night – the kind to remind you we’re now in autumn for the long haul – and the second Caught By The River Social Club. Shaking off the weather in the downstairs bar of the King & Queen public house after trudging grumpily past Oxford Street roadworks, you’re struck by how many people have turned out in this grimmest of days. It’s rammed. Upstairs, talks between Rob Young – the author of the exemplary Electric Eden – and Friend Of The River Richard King and Elektra Records archivist Mick Houghton and former Zigzag editor Andy Childs were met with pin-drop silence from a packed room. Further drinking is soundtracked by The Memory Band’s two sets of dream-state acoustic folk, the torrent outside a distant memory. The next day, the only hangover is the fact that we forgot to record the lot for the website. Oh well, next time, promise. Come hell or high water.
