From the 29th March to the 5th of April 2024, Drs Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones — collectively known as A Man Called Adam — undertook a Dyski artist residency in West Cornwall. Situated in woodland close to Lamorna Cove, neolithic caves and standing stones, Sonic Rituals took the participants on a sensory journey deep into the landscape and its histories to develop their sonic sensibilities.

As folklore activist and artist Ben Edge says, ‘we are a ritual species’ and for Sonic Rituals, Sally and Steve used a variety of techniques including sound art lectures, deep listening exercises, sound producing objects and performative rites to guide participants in their creation of sonorous ceremonies designed to invoke our primordial connection with sound.

The resulting mix, created by Sally, features audio, sound and music created by the artists and participants during the residency. It includes works by professional theatrical sound designers Peter Rice and Adam McCreedy, musicians and performers Luanna McCallum, Charlotte Bourne, Liv Bartlett and Laura Irvin, nature artist Dan Cippico, horticulturalist DJ Tom Gecim, electronic music maker Toby Edwards, Noods radio broadcaster and student at Paris’ Science Po, Maria Schevchenko and Dyski organiser, artist and electronic musician Dion Star.
